Sitting at the border of two prominent Vancouver neighbourhoods of Kitsilano and the Point Grey, the design for this residence is an attempt in bridging the vernaculars of the two neighbourhoods, while taking a reductionist approach to the two languages. The design is explored in two directions each leaning towards one of the aesthetics.

Transparency using smart glass
In order to enjoy the spectacular views and yet obtain the privacy, the use of ‘smart-glass’ has been cleverly integrated into the external envelope.
Modulated transparency
In both design approaches, the façade is purposefully engineered to blur the lines between the walls and the roof plane, omitting all notions of eaves, soffits, fascia boards and gutters.

The exterior envelope of the building is based on Charred Oak siding, White marble, anodized aluminum as well as glass.
