Starbucks Wall Centre

At Chris Doray Studio
Taking on the cues from its Japanese counterpart in Dazaifu, the Vancouver store features a very organic surface treatment that mimics the mountainous terrain of the British Columbia landscape.
The location of this flagship store is somewhat iconic, as it is nested on the highest point of the main artery into the downtown core of the city of Vancouver.
Frit pattern in the windows filter light and views
The triangulated structure transforms the space during the day
This fractal folded planes is reminiscent of the Japanese origami tradition which holds a strong connection to the history of the Japanese and Chinese immigrants who were the major work force responsible for the building the Canadian Pacific Railway through the rocky mountains.
The night lighting brings out the definition of the structure and produces a play of light and shadows
